Gynecomastia Surgery

Gynecomastia surgery, also known as male breast reduction surgery, is a cosmetic procedure that aims to reduce the size of the male breast tissue. The procedure is commonly performed on men who have developed excess breast tissue due to hormonal imbalances, weight gain, or certain medications.

Gynecomastia surgery can be performed using several techniques, including liposuction, excision, or a combination of both. The choice of technique depends on the extent of the breast tissue and the patient’s individual needs. The procedure is typically performed under general anesthesia and may take several hours to complete.

During the surgery, the surgeon will make an incision around the areola or in the armpit, and excess breast tissue and fat are removed using liposuction or excision. The remaining breast tissue is reshaped to create a more masculine contour. In some cases, excess skin may also be removed.

After the surgery, patients can expect some swelling, bruising, and discomfort for several days to weeks. Patients are usually advised to wear a compression garment to help reduce swelling and promote healing. The results of gynecomastia surgery are generally long-lasting, but patients are advised to maintain a healthy diet and exercise routine to prevent the return of excess breast tissue.

Like any surgery, gynecomastia surgery carries some risks, including bleeding, infection, scarring, and nerve damage. It is important to discuss the potential risks and benefits of the procedure with a qualified plastic surgeon before deciding to undergo the surgery. A skilled and experienced surgeon can help patients achieve their desired results while minimizing the risk of complications.
